Understand what a credential means

Explore certifications with confidence

Learning a topic, receiving a participation statement and earning a professional certification are different achievements. Check the official requirements before investing your time or money.

A free learning resource does not automatically include a free certificate or certification exam. ManyJobs only labels certificate availability as confirmed when that information has been verified.

Start with the skill your role needs

Read the job advert carefully. A suggested course can help you develop knowledge; it is not evidence that a particular certification is mandatory. If a vacancy names a credential, follow the employer’s wording and check the official issuer’s current requirements.

Check these details before registering

  • Who issues the credential, and what exactly is it called?
  • Is it a completion statement, an assessed certificate, a vendor certification or a formal qualification?
  • Are assessment, exam, renewal or certificate fees separate from learning access?
  • Are there prerequisites, expiry dates or practical assessment requirements?
  • Does the employer or education provider recognise it for your intended purpose?

Microsoft certifications

Microsoft Learn provides official learning material alongside information about Microsoft credentials. Study access and credential requirements are separate. Use the official Microsoft credentials directory (external) ↗ to check the current exam, assessment and pricing details.

New Zealand qualifications

When researching a formal New Zealand qualification, use NZQA’s official information (external) ↗ and the education provider’s own current programme page. Do not assume a short online learning resource has NZQA status.

Keep your CV accurate

Describe completed courses under training or professional development using the actual title and provider. List a certification only after you have earned it, and describe in-progress study clearly. A self-marked progress list is a personal reminder, not proof of an award.
